1. The 37th Annual Oktoberfest in Alexander City takes place on Oct. 14 this year! This is a day-long celebration for the whole family, held each year on the second Saturday of October. Enjoy browsing and shopping among local arts and crafts, dining on delicious food, live entertainment, kid-fest activities, an antique car show and more. Head to Charles E Bailey Sportplex from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 14.
2. Visit Main Street in Alexander City for the Fall For Downtown event on Oct. 21, beginning at 9 a.m. Local shops will host sidewalk sales and be offering free candy to kids! There will also be free games, an art walk, face painting, horse carriage rides, a pumpkin painting contest, the famous pumpkin roll, a baking silent auction, local performers, a bouncy house and more. Dress the kids up in their Halloween costumes to make it even more fun!
3. Head to Russell Crossroads on Oct. 28 for Fall Family Festival! Admission is $25 and the fest runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Alexander City. You and your family or friends can enjoy horseback riding, lawn games, face painting, pumpkin carving, hot dogs and lemonade, BINGO and much more! You can also travel back in time and watch a working Blacksmith and corn being ground into cornmeal. You could also enter the old-fashioned Canning/Baking Contest for ribbons and prizes! This is the perfect day to enjoy all things fall near Lake Martin.
4. Head to the MainStreet Farmer’s Market in Alexander City this month, as this is the last month of the 2017 season! The market is set up on Lee Street this year, next to the First Baptist Church Family Life Center. It runs every Saturday from 7 to 11 a.m. through this month and offers fresh-picked local produce along with locally made products. These include jams and jellies, honey, lotions and more.
