Home on Lake Martin

lake martin eventsNow that the holidays are over, it’s time to plan the rest of your winter here at Lake Martin! Things tend to be quieter than usual until spring arrives, but there are still fun events and activities to enjoy around town and at the lake. As your Lake Martin real estate agents, we are here to fill you in on a few, so you can pass your winter in an enjoyable way.

1.  Fishing at Lake Martin is a year-round activity, you may just need a few extra layers to do it! If you’d like to participate in a tournament, you’ve got some options coming up. On Jan. 9 is the Wind Creek Bass Trail Event #4. Registration begins at 4 a.m. in the store, $110 per boat. First place based on 60 boats entered is $2,250. More tournaments will take place in February, including Wind Creek Bass Trail Event #5, and Beehive 9U Bass Tournament. Stay tune for information on those in the coming month!

2.  Russell Crossroads continues to host its Wildlife Presentations and Guided Nature Tours each month. This January, catch a Wildlife Presentation at the Naturalist Cabin on Jan. 9 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. This is free and open to all. The theme of this presentation will be discussing the diseases and ailments that local wildlife are susceptible to, and how we can help, such as simple yard work changes. This is for all ages and features live animals. The next presentation after this one will take place Feb. 13.

3.  If you’d like to get outdoors more this year, sign up for the Guided Nature Tour at Willow Point Trailhead on Jan. 9. This takes place from 1 to 4 p.m. Cost is $10 to participate. As you walk, find out which forest residents are dormant in the winter and which are active. You’ll look for signs of forest activity during the walk. Open to all ages with a moderate fitness level. Wear appropriate shoes and layers. Binoculars, cameras, water bottles and sunscreen are smart options. The next guided tour after this will take place Feb. 13.

4.  There is no way to know what lies ahead, but as of now, the Russell Forest Run is set for Feb. 27, and the Lake Martin 100 Ultra Run is set for March 20. So, if you’re interested in participating in one of those events, put the dates in your calendar and start getting out for practice runs! They are a great way to motivate you into achieving your 2021 fitness goals.

Other upcoming events include the Second Friday Open Mic Jam Session at Equality Performing Arts Center on Jan. 8, the 3rd Saturday Trash Cleanup in Alexander City on Jan. 16 and the Dadeville First Saturday Cleanup on Feb. 6.
