Home on Lake Martin

Lake Martin ActivitiesWhile we patiently wait for the water to warm up enough to swim again, there are plenty of events and activities to enjoy at Lake Martin during the spring season! The Haynie Team is here to fill you in, so you don’t miss a beat of the fun. Get out and enjoy the sunshine and warming temperatures!

1.  Do you know the history of this area of Alabama? You can learn much at the 204th Anniversary of the Battle of Horseshoe Bend on March 24! At Horseshoe Bend National Military Park, enjoy activities from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., including militia musket firing demonstrations, ranger guided battlefield walks, stickball games and more. Living history camps will be open all day and will feature skills from the time, such as tanning, cooking and twining.

2.  Also on March 24, you can head to Wine Creek State Park for an Easter Egg Hunt! This will take place in the north picnic area, across from the beach. Prizes will be handed out for each age division, which includes 0-2, 3-4, 5-8 and 9-12. Bring a bag or basket and have the kids there and ready at 10 a.m.!

3.  Live bunnies and chicks are coming to Russell Crossroads in honor of Easter! Gather up the family and enjoy wildlife presentations on March 24, March 31 and April 1, all from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The two events in March will take place at the Naturalist Cabin at Russell Crossroads, and the April Easter event will take place at SpringHouse. These talks are free and appropriate for all ages. Bring your camera to capture your kids’ interactions with these fuzzy animals! There will also be a guided nature walk on March 31 at 3 p.m., with advanced registration required. You’ll meet at the Willow Point Cutoff trailhead and discuss who is hatching and what’s happening in Russell Forest during the spring season.

4.  The 2nd Annual Auburn Azalea Festival will take place at Donald E Davis Arboretum on March 31. Here you can purchase native plants from the plant sale, and you can ask azalea experts everything there is to know about caring for azaleas. While there, enjoy live music from local artists, food trucks, and live animals from the Auburn University Museum of Natural History. It’s fun for the whole family!

Come April, there will be another slew of events to enjoy, and even warmer temperatures! This is a great season to enjoy Lake Martin, before the area really fills up for summer.
