If this is your first 4th of July at Lake Martin, get excited! It’s a pretty big deal around here. As your Lake Martin real estate team, we are here to fill you in on the fun, so you don’t miss a beat of it next week.
1. Start your celebrating early on July 3rd at the Alexander City Celebrate Freedom event! Enjoy a free concert by Finding Favour, beginning at 6 p.m. at Benjamin Russell High School. Concessions will be available for purchase. Then enjoy a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. to end the night!
2. A 4th of July Boat Parade takes place each year on July 4th, and this year is the 40th parade! Choose whether you will decorate your boat and join the patriotic crowd, or if you will watch and wave from the shores. Boats of every size and shape participate! The parade begins at Kowaliga Marina and heads to Children’s Harbor, circling past the lighthouse. Prizes will be rewarded for largest flag, tallest flag, most patriotic, most creative, and new this year, best overall boat and crew! The parade begins at 10 a.m.
3. The AMP will be hosting Fourth of July Blast: Concert and Fireworks! Tickets cost $10 for adults, children six and under are free. Find your spot on the grassy lawn when gates open at 5:30 p.m. and park your chairs or blankets. The Bank Walkers will perform at 7 p.m., followed by the Grains of Sand Band at 8 p.m. Lake Martin’s largest fireworks show begins at 9 p.m.!
4. Spend time in nature at Russell Forest on July 4th. Head to the Naturalist’s Cabin at 9 a.m. for a Naturalist Presentation – Wild About Animals. Kids can witness forest creatures and artifacts right from the surrounding forests, and learn how to spot them when out in nature. At 2 p.m., join a Guided Nature Tour on Wilson Road Trailhead, where you will identify plants and animals that are discovered during the walk. This costs $10.
5. Spend the day on Lake Martin! Many Lake Martin residents and visitors participate in these local events, and many others just head out on the lake for a day of boating, swimming and lounging. Expect the marinas and the shores to be crowded for the holiday! If you live right on the lake, it’s a perfect day for hosting a backyard pool party or barbecue as well. Watch the fireworks right from your own patio!
