Fall is a beautiful season to spend at Lake Martin. The summer crowds have died down and the serenity of the lake is in high gear. If you live on the water, you can cruise out on the lake in a boat whenever you wish, or you can just enjoy the views from your deck, with a coffee in hand.

1.  Dadeville’s Fall Festival is this Saturday, Oct. 5, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Enjoy a car show, live music, arts and craft vendors, food trucks, children’s activities, a petting zoo, a color run and more. This also includes the famous Soap Box Derby! If you aren’t participating in the Derby, be sure to watch it and cheer on the racers! Lots of family-friendly fun to be had.

2.  The Alabama River Region Arts Center hosts events every first Saturday of the month. On Oct. 5, Bluegrass Jam and Sit & Sew is open to anyone who would like to participate! All players of acoustical instruments and singers can join the bluegrass jam, and all quilters, knitters and crocheters can join the Sit & Sew. This takes place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

3.  The 2019 Alabama Cotton Festival will take place on Oct. 12 on Main Street in Eclectic. Browse unique items offered by more than 100 vendors, along with an art and photo contest, a sweet treats contest, a dog show, chicken races, 5K Cotton Run and Fun Run, Cotton Queen pageant, antique car show, antique tractor show, carnival-themed Kids Zone and more! There is something for everyone.

4.  Oktoberfest in Alexander City will take place Oct. 12 at the Charles E Bailey Sportplex. From 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., enjoy local arts and crafts, live entertainment, children’s activities, a car and truck show, delicious food and more. This annual tradition is fun for the whole family!

5.  The Fall Family Festival at Russell Crossroads will take place Saturday, Oct. 26. from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Enjoy everything you love about fall, including pumpkin painting, a canning contest, bobbing for apples, horseback rides, a plethora of lawn games, face painting, delicious food, pie and cake baking contest and more. You can even watch a working blacksmith and watch corn being ground into meal.
