Home on Lake Martin

Lake Martin Real EstateThe fall season has arrived here at Lake Martin! While you’d never know it with our hot temperatures, now is still the time to enjoy everything pumpkin flavored, and now is a wise time to prepare your home for the fall and winter seasons. From maintenance and safety, to cozy fall décor, we are here to fill you in on some tips and suggestions as your Lake Martin real estate team!

Heating – You haven’t used your heating system since last year, and some day in the future, you may want to turn it on again! Now is the time to have it inspected by a professional, before winter arrives and they get busy. If you’re leaving your lake home for the winter, leave your heat at a low temperature, such as 50 degrees.

Leaks/Drafts – Now is also a smart time to deal with any leaks and drafts you’ve noticed in your home, so your lake home stays warm and your heating bills are low. You’ve got options, such as filling in gaps with caulk, or purchasing some window film. You could also choose to upgrade your windows, doors or insulation before winter arrives.

Leaves/Lawn – If you’ve got beautiful trees in your yard, have a rake handy to collect the fall leaves, or a tool to mulch them, so they don’t kill your grass. Keep your gutters cleaned out once the leaves begin to fall. Now is also a great time to fertilize your lawn, or aerate. Continue to water and mow the grass until a frost.

Boat Care – Decide when your boating season is over for the summer/fall and then hire a professional to winterize the boat. Store away your boat toys for next year.

Cozy Up – Warm up your Lake Martin home for fall and winter. This could mean placing rugs on hardwood floors, replacing airy window curtains with heavier ones, adding throw blankets and pillows to your couches and beds, and setting up a coffee or hot chocolate station for guests. Clean up your fireplace or fire pit for cozy fall fires.

Decorate! This is the fun part. Make your home feel more like fall with a centerpiece of pumpkins, mums, gourds, apples or anything else that feels like fall to you. Flank your front entryway with fall flowers or pumpkins. Hang up your fall or Halloween décor. Add accessories in fall colors, like brown, yellow, red and burnt orange, similar to the colors of the trees.

Most people think of summer when they think Lake Martin, but fall is a relaxing, cozy time to spend at the lake! Throw your Auburn sweatshirt on and head out on your patio with your cup of coffee to enjoy the beautiful sunrise, sunset or stars. Host a campfire or a football watch party. Go fishing or canoeing on the serene lake whenever you wish.

If you’d like to achieve your Lake Martin real estate goals, fall is also a wonderful time for that! Things are calmer and tend to move faster. When ready to buy, sell or both, contact us, the Haynie Team!
