What to Do at Lake Martin During Coronavirus

While we all hang out at home, waiting for the latest updates on coronavirus, you may be wondering how to make the most of your time, and how you can help others out in the community. As your Lake Martin real estate team, we’re here to fill you in on what we know!

1.  Volunteer. If you don’t have a compromised immune system, you may be looking for ways to help those in the community who need it. Numerous groups are being put together for this. The Lake Martin Dadeville Area Chamber of Commerce have started a “Neighbor to Neighbor Program†where people can ask for help, and others can offer to assist. Churches, such as the First Baptist Church of Alexander City and First United Methodist Church of Alexander City, are organizing systems that church members can use to request help or offer aid. Stay-at-home parents are offering to help other parents looking for childcare while kids are out of school. You could do the same if you have the capacity to care for more children. If you know of any neighbors who could benefit from assistance, such as seniors, pregnant women, working parents, anyone with a compromised immune system, etc., simply reach out and ask if there is any way you can assist.

2.  Support local business. While we can no longer dine in at local restaurants, many are offering takeout, delivery and curbside pickup options! They are hurting right now and need our support. If you’d like to not cook for a night or two, call your favorite local businesses and see what they have to offer. Catherine’s Market, SpringHouse, J.R.’s, Jake’s and Emporium Wine are just some of the examples of local businesses still open at this time. Other shops have closed, but you can still shop online. If a business is closed and doesn’t have online shopping, consider purchasing a gift card to use at a later date. Reach out to your favorite businesses and ask how else you can help.

3.  Spend time at Lake Martin! You can still spend time outdoors, just keep your distance from others. This means that you can still head out on your fishing boat or kayak and enjoy some calm time on the water. Hang out on shore and skip rocks, have a picnic or read a book. Get the kids out for some fresh air with a family walk or bike ride. Hop in the car for a road trip to view some Alabama attractions from the car. If you have a home on Lake Martin with great views, bring your cup of coffee out there in the mornings for a refreshing start to your day.
