While we spend more time than usual at home, in order to combat the COVID-19 pandemic together, you might find yourself wondering what home projects you could accomplish right now. After all, most of us claim we’re too busy to accomplish the home improvement projects on our to-do list. Not anymore! As your Lake Martin real estate team, we’re here to share some ideas with you.
1. Clean/declutter. It’s spring, so why not actually accomplish spring cleaning this year? Take time to go through each room of your house and remove anything you no longer need or use. Donate what you can to drop-off donation sites. Deep clean each room in your house. Give each family member a set of chores to help out, then celebrate each night with a movie, baking, game night, etc. If you’d like to sell your Lake Martin home in the near future, this is an important first step to take!
2. Organize. Remember all those Pinterest organizing projects you fantasized about doing one day? Today is the day! Organize your closets by color or season. Organize your pantries by labeling jars or bins, and putting what needs eaten first in front. Organize your front entryway and coat closet, adding hangers or hooks where they are needed. Go through the basement, attic or garage and organize/label your storage boxes. Get your kids to help you organize the toy room!
3. Paint. Now is a great chance to open all the doors and windows and allow fresh spring air in while you repaint your walls. Use leftover paint you have from your last project, or head to a local hardware store to pick up some paint. These businesses are still open. (Just practice safe distancing techniques, wash your hands, don’t go if you feel at all sick.) If you’re not up for walls, paint your cabinets, doors, an old piece of furniture. Paint canvases for new artwork for the wall! Get your family involved.
4. Yard work. Now is also a great chance to get some yard work done. Pull weeds out of your gardens and around your yard, water your lawn or throw down fertilizer if need be, plant some new flowers or vegetables in your gardens, prune your bushes/trees, etc. Empty and clean your planters so they are ready for this year’s plants. Wash your patio furniture so it’s ready for lots of family dinners outside. These are all great ways to get sunshine and fresh air outside while stuck at home!
